Derek Winstanley

BSS

My name is Derek Winstanley. I have worked for Western Colorado Counseling Center for several years. I bring a passion for counseling and creativity to help keep counseling fresh and productive. I have been doing social work and counseling in several different forms, including an internship in Utah state prison and counseling with individuals with cognitive and developmental disability.

I am currently completing an internship with the Veterans Affairs (VA) helping Veterans find housing and employment. I believe that everyone can discover a peaceful existence. In some cases, having a safe place to openly discuss struggles without judgment can help facilitate this process. I believe in the counseling process as a collaborative way to identify and improve outlook and perception as well as a way to promote changes in behavior for an individual to find optimal mental health.

I am married and have two young children. I find joy both professionally and being active with my family. We enjoy biking, hiking, skiing, and disc golf as ways to stay active and connected with each other and our community.
